Studying PSHE/Citizenship
PSHE is divided into three themes: Health and Wellbeing; Relationships; Living in the wider world: This includes economic wellbeing, careers and the world of work. PSHE is a programme through which young people acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. The PSHE programme at JCG aims to develop the qualities and attributes pupils need to thrive as individuals, family members and members of society. It prepares them to manage many of the most significant opportunities, challenges and responsibilities they will face growing up in such rapidly changing and challenging times. It also helps them to connect and apply the knowledge and understanding they learn in all subjects to practical, real-life situations while helping them to feel safe and secure enough to fulfil their academic potential.
In Year 10 and Year 11, our students will come off timetable for half a day each half-term to participate in a series of PSHE workshops led by experts and outside agencies. These sessions will be tailored to the needs of the cohort but, over the course of KS4, we will look at the various issues surrounding relationships and sex education, personal safety and wellbeing, adapting to change, and careers education information, advice and guidance.
Trips, Opportunities, Progression
The vast majority of the PSHE content in KS4 will be delivered by external agencies through talks or interactive sessions. In particular, close cooperation is maintained with Skills Jersey who provide guidance, interviews, advice and information. Brook and You Matter also assist us in the provision of compulsory relationships and Sex Education. In recent years, we have also worked with Silkworth Lodge, Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner, The Samaritans, YES and Jersey Youth Parliament, as well as many other organisations.
There will also be an extended seminar each year dealing with relationships and consent taken by specialised staff and consultants.
