The Course

Physical Education (PE) is compulsory for all students in Year 7 to 11. The programme at Key Stage 4 allows students to participate in a wide range of activities. Some modules encourage students to achieve a higher standard of performance and knowledge, as well as the opportunity to take on different officiating roles in various sports. These lead to an enhancement of life skills for example, teamwork, leadership, communication and decision making.

Students are encouraged to think about their participation in physical activity and lifestyles. The curriculum allows students to develop further knowledge of sports that can be pursued once they have left school. Some examples of these activities and sports covered in core PE lessons include yoga, aerobics, fitness, boxercise, indoor and outdoor games-based activities, badminton, squash, trampolining, tennis, softball and climbing.

Assessment

In Key Stage 4, students' attainment and effort is monitored using a colour coded system along with a Learner Profile grade. The data collected from the assessments are used to complete periodic reports each term and an end of year subject report.
