Year 12 textile students from Jersey College for Girls have been selected for the Junk Kouture Competition out of thousands of entries from across England and Scotland.

Founded in Ireland in 2010, the competition has seen over 100,000 participants produce 15,000 distinctive designs helping save over 40,000kg from landfill.
This year the competition went global for the first time launching in London, Milan, Paris, Abu Dhabi and New York.10 designs will be selected by the Junk Kouture judging during the London City Final to compete with 50 other designs for the world competition in September.
There are several awards available such as ‘World Designer of the Year’, ‘UK Designer(s) of the Year’ as well as the ‘Glamour’, ‘Junior’ and ‘Performance’ Award. Prizes range from money for the schools of the Designers of the Year as well as resources such as Apple Packages and access to educational and training programmes
.Ahead of the competition, the dresses created by the students were featured in Hinton Magazine, a digital fashion, health & lifestyle magazine.
Bianca Padidar, Head of Textiles, said: “I am so proud of the girls, they worked so hard within their teams to create stunning wearable art pieces. Each team really engaged into the brief and designed their pieces around individual themes. They sourced recycled materials from all types of places and came up with innovative ways in which to manipulate the material to create sculpture and embellish to add detail and texture.
“I am really looking forward to the show where they showcase their stunning designs. They have exceeded my expectations with their designs, and skill, collaborated so well within their teams and build up confidence now to and perform in front thousands of people!”
